When it comes to heated spatulas for conservation, we certainly know our stuff. Willard has been proudly making hand tools for conservation since the 1950’s and we even produced the very first commercial spatula on the market.
Since designing and making that very first model, we have since gone on to develop 15 more variations to cater to the needs of conservators around the world. We also regularly design and make custom tips for our spatulas for special bespoke orders, some of which go on to make it into our core range of tips! Next, is our newest conservation spatula, the BK1, which has been designed as the ideal entry level spatula, built with the same quality and craftsmanship as our other models.
This set is available as a complete kit, comprising of 1 x new control unit with digital read out, 1 x bespoke heated spatula, 7 x individual tips and 1 x spatula stand.

Flexible Thin Blade Heated Spatula
Flexible Spatula
This latest innovation is the new flexible blade heated spatula (or tacking iron), which has a variety of uses from accessing difficult to reach areas, to assisting with the removal of dry mounted objects and pressure sensitive tapes.
The flexible bladed conservation spatula has an ultra thin spatula blade with full temperature control from ambient up to 150 degrees C, through the Willard ‘special’ model Control Unit (please see our Control Units). The hand piece is supplied with a flexible lead that attaches to the mini transformer and regulates the spatula’s ultra low operating voltage.

Grooved E Heated Spatula
This specialist “grooved” heated spatula is custom designed for precise, localised work on edges and corners when re-mounting easel paintings on stretchers.
All Willard hand tools, including this custom made “Grooved” E heated spatula, are hand crafted by Willard technicians, to the same unique high standard that has built the Willard reputation for proven accuracy, durability and extreme reliability for more than 50 years.

1EC Compact Heated Spatula
1EC with tip
The Willard 1EC Compact Heated Spatula offers all the convenience of the 1E, but with the added benefit of having a smaller diameter handle and shorter shaft length from handle to tip; an ideal tool for close-up working, as it fits very comfortably in the hand for this type of application.
The 1EC Compact Heated Spatula is a recent addition to the conservation hand tool range at Willard to enable better handling for localised treatment. The standard 1E tips will also operate on this “compact” model, and is available to purchase with or without tips.
