Upcoming Conferences and Events for Conservators & Heritage Professionals 2018

With the new academic year now in full swing, we’ve compiled a list of the must-attend events and conferences for conservators. The Conservation industry benefits enormously from the collaboration between professionals and the sharing of new findings and techniques, often taking place at events such as the ones listed below. This is why Willard are proud to sponsor a number of conferences each year to show our support.


SEPTEMBER


IIC Turin Congress (Willard Sponsored)

10-14th September 2018 (Registration is now closed) This year’s 27th Biennial Congress is set to attract the best minds in conservation from around the world. Hundreds of people coming together to generate discussion and explore the biggest issues that exercise our field. Find out more information here.


Workshop on Linked Data and Conservation

11.9.2018 12:30pm – 4pm Location: OeRC, 7 Keble Road, Oxford, OX1 3QG The Oxford e-Science Research Centre (OeRC) is organising a workshop on the use of Linked Data technologies for conservation documentation. Conservation data from the Ashmolean Museum, the Bodleian Library and the Oxford Conservation Consortium will be presented. NCS Conference Series – ‘Passive Aggressive?’ Changing the Climate in Archival and Museum Storage

20.9.18 10am – 5pm Location: Hawthornden Lecture Theatre, Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh A one day conference to present and discuss EN16893:2018, the new British & European standards for heritage conservation. This day conference, the third of four around the UK, will present and discuss the manner in which the new British and European standards for heritage conservation urge institutions to move away from air-conditioned storage and display and towards sustainable, low energy, passive means of managing internal climates.

ICRI Conference 2018 (Willard Sponsored)

1.10.18 Where: National Gallery of Ireland. A one day conference will take place on Thursday 4 October at the National Gallery of Ireland. The conference will comprise an exciting selection of papers, as well as poster presentations and the opportunity to network with conservators from home and abroad.


NOVEMBER


Conference: Planning for the Unthinkable: Protecting the National Heritage Sector

29.11.18 Place: Lydia and Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre, V&A, London, UK. Aimed at those working in the museums and heritage sector, as well as related interdisciplinary fields, we invite you to join us for this free one-day conference, opened by Michael Ellis MP (Minister for Arts, Tourism and Heritage), to hear and share ideas on the future of catastrophe planning within our institutions.


DECEMBER


Icon ACR Conference 2018: Advocacy & Engagement

7.12.18 Location: London, TBC This conference is designed specifically for Accredited members of Icon to inspire them in their professional development. Following the tremendous success of the event in 2017, this year’s event will include speakers from inside and outside of the conservation profession to address the theme of ‘Advocacy and Engagement’.
