Exhibition: Nek Chand – The Rock Garden Sculptures at Pallant House

If you haven’t visited Pallant House Gallery in the last month, now is certainly the time! Displayed in the tranquil setting of the gallery’s Courtyard Garden and Garden Gallery is a selection of sculptures by Indian artist Nek Chand. This is a unique opportunity to see work by the creator of the famous sculpture park, ‘The Rock Garden of Chandigarh’, in India (the second most visited site in India) right here in Chichester.

Over forty figurative concrete and mosaic works created from found objects are on loan from the Nek Chand Foundation and reflect the internationally renowned artist’s intuitive approach to creating. Nek Chand sadly passed away just two days after the exhibition at Pallant House opened, making this an even more poignant display for visitors. Chands self-taught skill and efforts to get his work recognised reflects the ethos of Outside In; the Gallery’s flagship project providing a platform for artists who define themselves as facing barriers to the art world.
